#Every Child a Reader #Every Child a Writer #Every Child a Mathematical Thinker #Every Child Confident in Their Unique Contribution
At Langland Community School we have a themed approach to geography, history, design technology and science. These subjects link to each other and to a whole school overarching theme each term. The themes are delivered on a two-year cycle:
Year A: Fantastic Feats and Where to Find Them, Wonders of the Natural World and MK through the Ages
Year B: It’s a Small World After All, Chain Reaction and Sport: Power to Change the World.
The teaching of the themed curriculum follows the Talk for Writing (TfW) approach by hooking children into the topic, and in the initial stage of learning immersing children so they can learn a range of skills and text map key definitions. During the next stage of learning, children will build upon the knowledge they have acquired and deepen their learning. Children will have an understanding of what they have learnt and finally, will be given the opportunity to independently demonstrate what they have learnt through a final writing outcome. The themed curriculum units ensure a progressive, broad and balanced curriculum is offered to our children. The use of cross curricular links for English and maths is expected for each unit.
